RAFA MÜLLER QUINTET

The Brazilian drummer and composer Rafa Müller, who moved to Hamburg to study, also founded his quintet there. He is joined by the Swedish trumpeter Bjorn Atle Anﬁnsen, the Russian saxophonist Kamil Husyainov and the German musicians Jonas Oppermann on piano and Friedrich Betz on bass. Trademark: striking melodies and weighty grooves that are not afraid to take risks when playing together. Müller's drums oscillate between meditative spiritual and powerfully energetic rhythm, influenced in equal measure by hard bop, free jazz, southern Brazilian folk music and bossa nova, taking the special sounds of his fellow musicians into account during the writing process.
