Guitar, drum'n'bass and live effects from the laptop - the trio of Hamburg guitarist Niklas Werk, completed by Lucas Kolbe on bass and Bastian Menz on drums, relies on the minimalism of its means. Musically, however, it unfolds an orgy of sound, as one of its influences is the Irish-British DJ Aphex Twin, who is known for his idiosyncratic sound. Other sources of inspiration include Ambrose Akinmusire, Boards of Canada and Paul Motian. Werks' electro-acoustic compositions oscillate from rock grooves to lyrical melodies, from atmospheric electronic beats to true vintage nostalgia, sometimes even surprising the audience with filigree chamber music interplay.
