ELBJAZZ IN STREAM ON 4 + 5 June 2021

Dancing under cranes and disco balls is, sadly, something we can only dream about doing at the moment. So, instead, why not fill up your wine buckets and head for the couch! Digital ELBJAZZ will take place on 4 + 5 June 2021.

In cooperation with ARTE CONCERT and NDR Kultur, and with the friendly support of Hamburg’s Ministry of Culture and Media, we have curated an outstanding programme of concert streams for the ELBJAZZ weekend – which will even see international guests performing in Hamburg. We can’t wait to experience performances from the following artists:

Anything can happen when The Notwist perform: indie-rock, noise jazz, kraut, minimal music or electronic pop. And, dancing above everything, is Markus Acher’s delicate voice: sounding sophisticated but never overly intellectual, catchy but never trying too hard to please – and it’s very, very danceable.

Trombonist and singer Nils Landgren needs no introduction – Sweden’s most famous jazz musician and his Nils Landgren Funk Unit serve up deep old-school funk and smooth, top-class soul.

The Paris-based soul diva China Moses is a natural entertainer who knows how to switch from smooth jazz to powerful blues in an instant.

Salvador Sobral won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017 – at ELBJAZZ, the Portuguese musician will sing his trademark sensitive ballads, blending pop and jazz.

Michelle David grew up on gospel music. Over the last five years, Michelle David & The True-tones have successfully integrated a variety of influences, ranging from Afro-funk and soul to calypso and Moroccan Gnawa.

The Finnish trumpeter Verneri Pohjola impresses with a cool Nordic blend of bop, soul-jazz, folk and even rock.

We’re also proud to present the Canadian–Swedish singer and accordionist Wendy McNeill, the Munich-based synth-jazz-pop musician Fehler Kuti and the Masaa quartet with the Lebanese singer Rabih Lahoud, performing a blend of Arabic verse and contemporary jazz. Additional acts may still be confirmed!

On the eve of the digital ELBJAZZ we also present a very special premiere:

the inaugural Deutscher Jazzpreis award ceremony will be broadcast live at 19:30 on 3 June. An independent jury of experts is awarding prizes in 31 categories, recognising the work of artists, club owners and journalists. The event will feature a live performance by Nils Landgren and his Funk Unit.

Not happy just watching? Our virtual reality programme of live concerts and on-demand content (including concerts by the Michael Wollny Trio, Nighthawks and Nils Wülker) gives you the chance to immerse yourself in virtual worlds. Join the crowd and head through the Old Elbe Tunnel to the festival site – where you can dance (virtually) to music from three stages. Visitors can create their own unique avatar and chat amongst themselves using a microphone. A real community experience at ELBJAZZ!
