Yuliia was born into a musical family in the Ukraine and grew up hearing her parents singing Ukrainian folk songs every day. She studied pop singing and got to know a variety of musical styles. At the age of 15 she fell in love with jazz.

In 2014, she moved to Germany to realise her dream of studying jazz. After pursuing a difficult path for many years, Yuliia ultimately achieved her goal. She will complete her studies at Hamburg’s Hochschule für Musik und Theater under Professor Ken Norris in summer 2021.

Yuliia has a passionate interest in different cultures. In autumn 2019, she spent a semester in the Dominican Republic, where she learned about the roots of Afro-Dominican culture. Brazilian music is another field that fascinates her, and she has been studying its unique characteristics and the Portuguese pronunciation of Brazilian songs for a number of years. All these interests inspire and influence her arrangements, composition style and musical taste.

Yuliia sees it as her mission to take Ukrainian music out into the world. Through her arrangements she combines her great passion – jazz culture – with her roots – Ukrainian folk music – and gives musicians an opportunity to get to know her culture and offer their own input on this deeply authentic music.
