Big Band

“As soon as the music has flowed through my taste filter, it’s always going to sound the way I like it,” says saxophonist, composer and arranger Vincent Dombrowski (b. 1994). Harnessing the momentous power of his big band, at the Elbjazz Festival he will be performing a variety of works he has composed for various ensembles in recent years, all rearranged for a large ensemble. Abstract or concrete, improvised or scored – the music always describes the emotional states, the personality facets and the daydreams of its creator, which are all just as diverse as his sources of inspiration. Those sources include the Wayne Shorter Quartet’s concert in Essen, violinist Hillary Hahn’s performance in the Elbphilharmonie in 2021, and the works of the photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson. In short, anything “that evokes deep emotions and that has moved me to reflect on my art and to explore what I want to express.”
