The Collective Abroad
Triumph of nationalism? The end of European cohesion? Both are often lamented. Jazz musicians are well-qualified to argue why borders should be completely irrelevant. The first formation of The Collective Abroad came together for the 2019 Elbjazz Festival – featuring young musicians from Denmark, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK and the Netherlands. Other countries are now also represented, and the band has performed with as many as 13 musicians. When this exciting international ensemble now returns as a septet to the HfMT Young Talents Stage, where it first formed, we can expect plenty of innovative improvised music. The Collective Abroad’s own compositions are full of intricate rhythms and intoxicating melodies. Long live the idea of Europe!
