Richie Beirach Trio
Richie Beirach describes the sound of his new band as “heavy burning swing”. There’s no doubt: the native of Brooklyn is still bursting with energy and pleasure in his music after a career stretching back over 50 years. It therefore comes as no surprise that the pianist sought out two comrades-in-arms who are not even half his age for his new trio: the drummer Tobias Frohnhöfer from the Pfalz region and the Hamburg bass player Tilman Oberbeck. Beirach has been living on a farm in the Pfalz for the past few years, but he began his career as a long-standing band member under legends like Stan Getz and Dave Liebman. Richie Beirach is a virtuoso across various styles whose classical training shines through his improvisation – and who also makes space for lyrical tones. At the same time, he is always open to anything new: he recently composed the score for the film version of Erich Kästner’s Fabian.
