Michelle David & The Gospel Sessions
“Music that sounds as if John Lee Hooker and The White Stripes were jamming with a gospel singer” – that was the enthusiastic verdict on Deutschlandfunk. Michelle David grew up on gospel music. The North Carolina-born artist may have been singing all her life, but it was only in the 1990s, when she toured the Netherlands, that her career really took off. She recorded three “Gospel Sessions” albums with the Amsterdam funk legends Lefties Soul Connection. Those albums featured raw, primal blues and soul, and the band recently enriched that sound with jazz and afrobeat. After celebrated tours and an ecstatic performance on the TV show Inas Nacht, this live sensation is ready for her ELBJAZZ debut. Hamburg, get ready to be gospelised!
