Michael Wollny & Friends

Switzerland, Germany, France Jazz

To attend this Elbphilharmonie concert, reservations must be made in advance.

The programme item Michael Wollny & Friends conceals a quartet which one could confidently call a supergroup of European jazz. The Swiss vocal acrobat Andreas Schaerer, who gave a guest performance with his group Hildegard lernt fliegen at the ELBJAZZ 2017, is one of the friends of the German pianist. The other two members come from France. Wollny has performed recently with the accordionist Vincent Peirani in a duet. And he has already played together with the saxophonist Emile Parisien, too. Peirani and Parisien likewise have a long history as a duet, their duo performance at the ELBJAZZ 2017 was outstanding.

“Out Of Land” is the title of a live-album of these four exceptional artists, where they once again explore the possibilities of their instruments and show how the boundaries of jazz can be pushed. Andreas Schaerer describes the encounter of these excessively communicative musicians as “an almost spiritual form of playing music”. The Jazzwise magazine (issue November 2017) characterizes this ensemble as follows: „The brightest and most charismatic stars of their generation in European jazz“. That really sounds like an exciting project.
