Born in New Jersey in 2001, the pianist, organist, drummer, composer and arranger was named a Rising Star by 201 Magazine (part of the USA Today network) in 2018 – and with good reason: Whitaker won the Harlem Stage Emerging Artist Award in the same year, and received the ASCAP Foundation Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Award in 2019.

His album Now Hear This – recorded with an all-star band consisting of Dave Stryker on the guitar, Yunior Terry on bass, Ulysses Owens Jr. on drums, and Sammy Figueroa on percussions – was produced by Grammy-winner Brian Bacchus (Gregory Porter, Norah Jones). With his passionate R&B- and funk-influenced repertoire, the 18-year-old showcases the latest stage in his musical development, one that has already been rapturously received at the Carnegie Hall and the Newport Jazz Festival.
