Mathias Eick & The Norwegian Wind Ensemble
To attend this Elbphilharmonie concert, reservations must be made in advance.
With his fourth ECM release Ravensburg (2018), the Norwegian trumpeter Mathias Eick alludes to the famous jigsaw puzzles that are so popular in his home. The album is a homage to family ties, which are the starting point of all the artist’s journeys – both physical and spiritual – as demonstrated by tracks such as “Family”, “Children” and “Parents”. With melodic sensitivity and compelling rhythm, he unfolds the emotional and moving puzzle of his family life with the goal of making music more personal again. For an extraordinary meeting between two sound worlds, that music has now been arranged by Erlend Skomsvoll for The Norwegian Wind Ensemble. Founded in 1734, they are the country’s oldest orchestra, and are also unique in their approach to collective improvisation.
