His colleague Pat Metheny called John McLaughlin “the world’s greatest guitarist”. And Miles Davis, not a man known for being generous with praise, once said: “The guy is hellishly good.” The English musician who blends rock and jazz like no other, turned 80 in January and, six decades after his first performances in London, still delights audiences with a “progressive guitar sound and a magnificent feeling for rhythm” (FAZ). Since 2009, McLaughlin has been playing with an international all-star band featuring Gary Husband (keyboards, drums), Ranjit Barot (drums) and Étienne M’Bappé (bass). The 4th Dimension has been called the “Mahavishnu Orchestra of the 21st century” – in reference to John McLaughlin’s legendary 1970s ensemble. Fine electric fusion sounds with thumping basses and razor-sharp solos.
