Jaco 70 - Word of Mouth Revisited
“He changed the rules of what was possible on the bass” – Red Hot Chili Peppers founding member Flea on Jaco Pastorius, who died far too young. The American jazz bassist, whose nimble runs and rhythmically precise playing defined the sound of the fusion band Weather Report for five years, is respected and admired not only by musicians. Word of Mouth was the name of Pastorius’s 21-strong big band, which toured until shortly before his death in 1987. Pastorius would have been 70 in late 2021 – the HfMT Bigband under conductor Wolf Kerschek now dedicates a new programme to the legendary bassist. Special guests, American drummer Bob Moses performed with Jaco Pastorius. And Jürgen Attig is a natural choice for the electric bass, a role that is almost impossible to fill. The musician from Hildesheim is in demand all over the world, and has already performed a Jaco tribute show with the NDR Bigband many years ago.
