European Jazz Laboratory

The European Jazz Laboratory was created seven years ago. It’s based on a joint idea of ELBJAZZ and the Academy for Music and Theatre in Hamburg. Every year a band from different cities in Europe is being assembled in a sort of experimental workshop, who then presents on the HfMT Young Talents Stage the pieces they have developed within the project week. This year the young musicians come from Siena, Odense, Groningen, Birmingham and Hamburg.

Special guest is the Danish drummer, Anders Mogensen. He is head of the jazz department at the Music Academy in Odense and may look back on great international experience. He has studied at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and among his teachers were Billy Hart and Bob Moses, two prominent drummers in the USA. Mogensen has performed with various bands at many international festivals and played with stars like Steve Swallow, Django Bates and Marilyn Mazur in the past.
