With Filip Dinev on the guitar, Björn Atle Anfinsen on the trumpet, Tilman Oberbeck on bass and Dominic Harrison on drums, the Hamburg quartet stretches its musical conversation far and wide in Dinev and Anfinsen’s compositions. After all, Dinev’s influences range from the organic sounds of the Balkan and the melodies of traditional jazz to the meditative qualities of classical music, while Anfinsen feels most at home in the (more) electronic domains of jazz. They describe their music together as “confusingly relaxing” and “a shortcut to the Promised Land”: it is guaranteed to strike a chord with anyone who is ready to take a deep breath and start enjoying the moment. It’s like a brilliant, blue sky, under which a small red boat carrying four friends sails down a tranquil river. Even if the boat occasionally starts rocking, and even if it sometimes takes on water, it never keels over – it simply continues on its predefined path, as if it knew exactly where it needed to go.
