BLUFF feat. Julius Gawlik & Christian Müller
BLUFF epitomises the latest generation of Hamburg jazz musicians – firmly anchored in contemporary jazz of the last 20–30 years, while injecting their own new ideas into the genre. It’s only fitting that the quartet – made up of Christian Höhn on the trumpet, Tim Scherer on the piano, Lucas Kolbe on the double bass and Jan Zeimetz on drums – had the honour in summer 2020 of recording their debut album of their own works at the renowned Bauer Studios in Ludwigsburg. Those works follow the principle of refined simplicity: the collaborative sounds primarily serve to sustain the melody, which sometimes flows and sometimes soars over epic modern jazz. For their performance at the Elbjazz Festival they will be joined by the Berlin bassist Christian Müller, while tenor saxophonist Julius Gawlik temporarily makes the band a quintet. In conjunction with the well-established core of the band, we can expect this to result in a fresh, new dynamic of seeking and finding.
