Three jazz nerds jamming together in the cellar at their university: the history of BadBadNotGood is similar to that of most other bands that have ever existed. However, these musicians from Toronto weren’t just fans of John Coltrane, they also loved rappers such as Tyler the Creator and Ghostface Killah, with whom they would soon record a whole album. 'BadBadNotGood are mainstream, but the way they do it is second to none', writes Musikexpress. Several magazines consider their latest album IV to be one of the best albums of the 2010s. The band, which has grown into a quartet, is unpredictable: they are masters of fusion jazz, post-rock, soul, hip-hop and electronica. And they sound even wilder live: as if Herbie Hancock’s 'Headhunters' were playing in a rap club. After an absence of three years, the Canadians are back in Hamburg – the four musicians are guaranteed to shake up ELBJAZZ in style.
