Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra

Germany Jazz, Big Band, Fusion

To attend this Elbphilharmonie concert, reservations must be made in advance.

In 2006 the composer and arranger Daniel Glatzel founded the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra (AMEO) in Berlin. The big ensemble consists of 18 young instrumentalists and doesn’t really fit into any ordinary mould. It moves somewhere between jazz and Neue Musik but its members are also familiar with afro funk, electronica, progressive rock and contemporary performances. The performances of the megaensemble are always full of surprising twists without being highly academic, rather filled with refreshing irony.

Four highly praised albums have already been released by the unorthodox orchestra and have been guests at many international festivals. In the past members of AMEO have already cooperated with The Notwist and Efterklang and artists like Tony Allen, Kenny Wheeler, Robert Wilson and Bobby Hutcherson. The Hamburger Abendblatt wrote about AMEO:”As fearless border crossers between musical styles the eighteen-headed combo bridges the divides between “E und U Musik” in a joyful way. Already at Thursday, one day before the official opening of ELBJAZZ, AMEO performs at the Elbphilharmonie.
