“Our audience wants to see boundaries broken down. We notice that in every concert.” Mira Lu Kovacs knows by now the liberating effect a live performance by her band 5K HD can have.
The Vienna-based quintet was described as a “supergroup” soon after it was formed in 2016 – no surprise considering that the ensemble sees the acclaimed singer and songwriter Kovacs joining forces with the four virtuosic musicians of the experimental combo Kompost 3. 5K HD have since become an established name in Austria’s musical landscape even though they, with their clever avantgarde pop-jazz, refuse to engage with almost all the marketing mechanisms commonly used in the industry. On their latest album High Performer they once again put on an electronically distorted performance, and yet one that is full of soul and sensitivity. A band that is just as complex, threatening and exciting as our present age.
